When you’ve tried all the new doctrines, ideas, and plans out there, and nothing satisfies your desire to know God, it’s time to try some OLD IDEAS Old Ideas Teaching Ministry with Messianic Rabbi Adam J. Bernay, MRbs Bringing you ideas as old as the Scriptures themselves but new as the first time you opened your Bible, Rabbi Adam J. Bernay is a dynamic and interesting speaker who will breathe new life into your understanding of God’s Word by: * Explaining the Scriptures as the people of Jesus’ day understood them * Bringing you historical and cultural insights into the Hebrew People, the People of the Book * Showing how what they knew effects your walk with God Rabbi Adam is an ideal speaker to bring to your: * Church Service * Bible Study * Retreat * Other Group interested in Biblical Topics SPEAKING TOPICS The following are topics offered in individual sermons and series forms. Any one or entire series will make exciting fare for your group! Also, if you have any other topics you would be interested in hearing about, just ask! THE FESTIVALS OF GOD SERIES * Passover in the Life of the Believer In the past few decades, Christians have become more and more cognizant of the importance of the Passover as the setting for "the Lord’s Supper" or Communion. In this talk, Rabbi Adam guides you through the Gospel accounts of the Jesus’ "Last Seder," shows where it matches up with elements of the traditional Passover Seder, and what He revealed as the full meaning of this ancient ritual. [NOTE: This is not an actual Passover Seder, but a sermon. For bringing a Seder to your church or group, see "DEMONSTRATION EVENTS" below.] * The First Fruits of Those Who Have Fallen Asleep In recent years, concern over the pagan rituals in "Easter" have caused many churches to stop using the "E" word and instead hold Sunday "Resurrection Day" services. Rabbi Adam takes you through the Gospel accounts of the Triumphal Entry, the Last Supper, the Crucifixion, and the Resurrection to show that the Lord’s Resurrection and leaving the Tomb are fully integrated in the Festivals as found in Leviticus, particularly the Day of the First Fruits. * The Journey to the Mountain We’ve all been taught about the Giving of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, but did you know this is actually a Hebrew Festival, and that the Holy Spirit was also manifest at its inauguration at Mount Sinai? Rabbi Adam takes you on a journey through the Bible to the mountain to learn about receiving God’s Torah and the Holy Spirit at the Mount of God on this Holy Day. * And the Trumpet Shall Sound… When Jesus comes back, He will come with the sound of the Shofar, the ram’s horn trumpet… which ties His Return with one of God’s Holy Days, the Day of Blasting the Shofar, also known as the Jewish New Year. The sound of the Shofar will raise you up as Rabbi Adam walks you through the stories, commandments, and prophecies connected with the ram’s horn. * The Day of Atonement in the Life of the Believer Jesus is our sin sacrifice, why do we need a Day of Atonement? Rabbi Adam shows you how this Biblical Holy Day is necessary – or should be – to every Christian, and how the Gospels tell us Jesus kept it as a vital part of beginning His Ministry. * And He Came and Tabernacled Among Us… It’s an accepted fact among most theologians and church historians – and a growing number of everyday Christians – that Jesus was not born on December 25, or anywhere near that time. So, when was He born? Rabbi Adam will guide you through the Scriptures that show when His actual birth was and how God inaugurated a Festival to celebrate it 1500 years before His birth… and the prophecy that all mankind will celebrate it in the Kingdom! * The First of His Feasts God is so gracious, He gives us a Festival to celebrate Him every week… His Sabbath. Rabbi Adam demonstrates from the Scriptures that this event has always been and will always be on the Seventh Day of the Week, not the First, and how God asks each of us to remember His wondrous gifts of Creation and Salvation by resting on His Sabbath! * The House of Prayer Rededicated Listen as Rabbi Adam spins you a tale so exciting, it should be a major motion picture! The struggle of a tiny but brave band of Hebrew priests and their followers who beat back a huge army of occupation to retake Jerusalem and refurbish and rededicate the Temple… the Temple Jesus would one day celebrate their victory at and declare Himself the Light of the World! Hanukkah, the Festival of Dedication – in story, song, and prophecy! * The Real "One Night with the King" The movie didn’t tell you the half of it! Rabbi Adam takes you through the history and prophecy of the Feast of Esther (Purim), and shows you the reality is even more exciting than the film! THE REAL JESUS SERIES * Recognizing the Real Jesus If you met Jesus on the street, would you recognize Him? When Mary called her son in to dinner, she didn’t yell out for "Jesus," because that’s not a Hebrew name. And He didn’t look or dress like the pictures you see. Rabbi Adam teaches you, from Scripture and tradition, how the Savior looked, dressed, and lived. * The Shiur on the Mount Part 1 * The Shiur on the Mount Part 2 * The Shiur on the Mount Part 3 There is, perhaps, no chunk of the Scriptures more exhaustively examined in Christendom than the three chapters of Matthew that comprise what is known as "The Sermon on the Mount." Certainly, there can be no more worthy enterprise in Biblical study than to look at the words of the Master! The subject matter of this teaching is the Torah and how to live by it! In three sessions (or more, depending on how many questions there are and how much time per session), Rabbi Adam will take you through Matthew Chapters 5-7 and show you how Jesus’ words not only uphold Torah but also point to the wisdom of the great rabbinic sages of Traditional Judaism! * Christmas vs. Hanukkah: Which Would Jesus Celebrate? Do you know where the traditions of Christmas actually come from? Rabbi Adam teaches the origins of the rituals of the two December holidays and compares them to Jesus’ teachings. * Easter vs. First Fruits: Which Would Jesus Celebrate? Like with the previous sermon comparing Christmas and Hanukkah, Rabbi Adam teaches the origins of the rituals of the two spring holidays and compares them to Jesus’ teachings. DEMONSTRATION EVENTS NOTE: These events have special costs for time and materials, and will require extra notice, prep time, and personnel to accomplish... but still it’s in reach of most any group’s budget! * Passover Seder This can be done in several ways, from a simple demonstration to a fully-interactive genuine teaching Seder that your congregants or group members participate in. Costs will vary depending on how many people directly participate (as opposed to observing). * Come Light the Menorah Rabbi Adam brings along his Yiddishe Mama (Jewish Mother) – and maybe a friend or two – to bring the joy of the Festival of Dedication & Light to your group! Light the candles, sing the songs, play the dreidel, try latkes, dance the Hora… and learn the reasons why we do these things and their meanings to you as a Christian! * Celebrate the Sabbath The prayers, the music, and the joy – Rabbi Adam shows you the traditions of Sabbath and their Christian significance. BEYOND SALVATION SERIES * Beyond Salvation Faith is a journey, not a destination. It starts with Salvation and continues with a walk… but what sort of walk? Does modern Christianity really uphold a proper walk, given that the statistics show that "Christians" behave similarly to the rest of society in issues such as divorce and abortion? Might there be something missing? Rabbi Adam explores these issues in a thought-provoking and challenging look at modern religion. * From The Earliest Times… Acts 15 is definitive: Christians should not keep Torah. Or is it so definitive? Rabbi Adam takes a new look at this passage and addresses Jesus’ injunction: Be Ye Perfect. * Do Not Put Unfood in Mouth Like with the previous sermon, doctrine has been that Acts 10 is definitive: the dietary commandments are not for Christians. But is that what it’s really saying? Rabbi Adam takes a new look at this passage – and keeps going beyond where most analysis of it ends! – and also shows the value of the dietary commandments for holy and healthy living. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? A concern for many groups in bringing in guest speakers is cost. A lot of speakers charge exorbitant fees. I don’t. In fact, I have no set fee, really. If you have a traditional amount you pay guest speakers, that’s fine. And if you’re in the Fresno-Clovis area, I am willing to come for free if you cannot afford to pay. If you want to take up a love offering, that would be appreciated. Outside the area, I am flexible. Just contact me and we’ll discuss it. CONTACT INFORMATION: E-MAIL:
